Away from the hustle and bustle of the multi-storied offices and teaming malls of Gurgaon, lies Mewat, a small A dance show by the students of Deepalaya school, Gusbethidistrict in Haryana. A primarily agriculture based region with a literacy rate that is well below the national average, Mewat is not a place most people would call ‘urban’. Deepalaya was drawn to the region in 2000 by its startling gender bias and illiteracy rate, to help the local community, we initially set up a primary school, which was soon followed by a children’s home and a small hospital.
Today, the project that we began at the turn of the new millennium has completed 14 years and has successfully educated and hundreds children, boys and girls alike. The annual day for Deepalaya School Gusbethi was held on 30th December 2013.A girl student from an underprivileged family performs at the Annual Day of Deepalaya School, Gusbethi With a pleasant nip in the air, the day started with the lamp lighting ceremony, followed by an elegant dance performance by the students. Students exhibited the various facets of their talents with dance, drama, music and other cultural activities.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Zile Singh Kalia (Block Education Officer, Tauru). Ms. Madhumita Ganguly (Managing Director, HDFC Bank) was guest of Honor on this occasion. Both the dignitaries sat spellbound during the beautiful performances by the Deepalayans. When asked Mr. Sakhi John, board member of Deepalaya, along with honoured guest, presents and award to a studentabout their experience, they expressed their happiness at being a part of the event and that seeing the children put up a wonderful performance made them realise the importance of recognising and developing any latent talents that children might have.
The Annual report was presented by Mr. Mahender Sharma- Principal Deepalaya School Gusbethi. The function included an award ceremony where students were awarded for their commendable performances in different areas across the previous academic session.
