A peek into Korean culture
Contemporary Gugak was born almost fifty years ago with the aim of creating a future for traditional music and provide a listener-oriented environment. That aim that was realised as the children sat mesmerised after listening to popular Korean folk songs and experiencing exotic music instruments. The Daebaram Sori, a composition depicting the sound of bamboo trees blowing in the wind, was particularly enjoyed by the students. The programme also had Bollywood songs that are popular in Korea such as Chaiyya Chaiyya, Dola Re Dola and Zoobi Doobi. On 11th October 2013, in honour of the 40th anniversary of Indo – Korea diplomatic relations, the students of Deepalaya School Gol Kuan, RJRND and Sanjay Colony were invited to witness a riveting performance by the Contemporary Gugak Orchestra at the Siri Fort Auditorium. The programme was conducted by the Korean Govt. along with Ministry of Culture Govt. of India and Indian Council of Cultural Relations.

Also in attendance was Mr. Lee Joongyo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India. In his speech, Mr. Lee spoke about how he hoped that events like these galvanize the spirit of friendship between Korea and India.
Jyoti, a class V student of Deepalaya School Sanjay Colony had this to say about the event –
“The people to people contact through the medium of music has made us know about the wonderful country Korea. I feel very happy to be a part of this great event.”
