Deepalaya collaborated with International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) – a subsidiary of Heavenly Culture World Peace Restoration of Light (HWPL) – for spreading the message of peace. HWPL is associated with UN Department of Public Information. Considering the consequences of war and terrorism on lives of millions of people in the world, HWPL has come up with a convention on renunciation & cessation of war. However, the same is not a law and is not legally enforceable.
In order to promote peace, HWPL has initiated a signature campaign for having an international law for cessation of war. The organization has been collaborating with NGOs in different countries throughout the world. Deepalaya is one such NGO which took part in promoting peace and decided to dedicate the whole week beginning 29th August to 2nd September for peace. Staff from 16 project locations of Deepalaya spread out in states of Delhi, Haryana, UP and Uttrakhand mobilized women to participate in the peace walk, rally and signature campaign. Here are a few snapshots:
Deepalaya SHG Team, Pataudi: Around 165 women from 10 villages adjoining the princely state of Pataudi participated in a rally on 30th August, 2016. A short speech was delivered by Ms. Jaswant Kaur, Director CRM setting the context of the rally. Mr. Brajesh Pathak also briefed the women can act as an agent for conveying the message of peace to the world leaders. The world needed to work together for peace for our future generation. Thereafter a video was shown to women showing how war affects the world economy.
It was amazing to see women full of enthusiasm marching on the streets of Pataudi with the banners and shouting slogans “hamein chahiye shanti”. The event was reported in Amar Ujala and Etv.
Deepalaya Sanjay Colony: Rain played spoilsport at many places. Staff posted at Sanjay Colony had planned the event on 31st August, 2016. They had to shift it towards the end of the week. However, the signature campaign continued throughout the week. Despite the fact that only 150 women participated in the rally, the team was able to get 478 signatures for supporting the cause.
Deepalaya SHG Team, Dwarka: 72 SHG women from Dwarka participated in peace walk on 2nd September, 2016. Ms. Rachana Kulshrestha delivered a short speech on how war can affect millions of innocent lives. Ms. Anita, project head also informed women how they can collectively raise their voice against war/terrorism. Women marched the streets with posters and banners saying they want love, peace and harmony.
Similar rallies were conducted by Deepalaya Learning Center located at Gole Kuan, Panchsheel Enclave, Adarsh Nagar, Haiderpur, Wazirpur and Bhalaswa. Students, teachers and parents of Deepalaya School, Kalkaji Extension and Gusbethi also supported the signature campaign.
