An effort to rekindle our connection with Mother Earth

This quote by Chief Seattle, lays bare the hard truth and is a pointer to how mankind is affected when we tinker with its environment, knowingly or unknowingly. Since ages, the human beings have been using the resources of Mother Earth to serve our own selfish ends, without thinking of rejuvenating them or giving it back.

The Earth is our mother. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons and daughters of the earth. This we all know. All things are connected. Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves – Chief Seattle

Since 1970, Earth day is being celebrated to create awareness about what human beings are doing to harm its environment. For the first time in history, 20 million Americans took to streets on 22ndApril, 1970 to protest against the deterioration of environment. The movement acquired a political alignment and led to the creation of the US Environmental protection agency. After about two decades in 1990, a group of leaders organised a campaign on a global level with participation from 141 countries. Since then, it is being celebrated every year in 184 countries including India.

Fada girls took up the responsibility of clean and healthy Earth.

The day was observed by our students enrolled in Father and daughter alliance at Sanjay Colony & Y-block with 119 students participating in various activities on 22nd April, 2016. The programme started with an educational speech on Earth Day. Later on, the teachers distributed sheets to the students for drawing activity under the theme “SWACCH BHARAT SWASTH JEEVAN. The girls started drawing and depicted the stressed globe and mother Earth conveying the message of “Clean India Green India”.

Thereafter, they took brooms in their little hands and started cleaning their surrounding area, picked litter and threw into dustbins.

The students pledged to keep their surroundings clean being responsible citizens of the country and to inspire others too to tread the same path.
