Batting for a noble cause…
“It was a great experience for me to get a chance to interact with renowned personalities like Tony Blair and Rohan Gavaskar and I enjoyed the day to the fullest,†says Pradeep, a Deepalaya Alumni who was one among the 10 Deepalaya students who got a golden chance to meet and interact with these renowned personalities on 28 September, 2011.
“It was a great experience for me to get a chance to interact with renowned personalities like Tony Blair and Rohan Gavaskar and I enjoyed the day to the fullest,” says Pradeep, a Deepalaya Alumni who was one among the 10 Deepalaya students who got a golden chance to meet and interact with these renowned personalities on 28 September, 2011.
The students got a brief about the areas Tony Blair Faith Foundation (TBFF) focuses on and the measures they should take to prevent malaria. The patron of TBFF also stressed on the fact that a bridge between all faiths can act as a powerful source and could help in the betterment of the modern world.
After a informative and learned discussion, the students also participated in a multi-faith cricket match-‘Knock Malaria for Six’ organized by TBFF to promote inter-faith harmony among students and to raise awareness on malaria prevention. Tony Blair also played with the students and batted a few balls bowled by junior Gavaskar. The mini match was enjoyed by all and saw participation from students of other schools and NGO- Kutumb Foundation as well.
Tony Blair Faith Foundation has for the first time welcomed four outstanding students from India for its popular Faiths Act Fellowship. Two of the fellows- Ayesha Nusrat and Rohit Sasve are working in Deepalaya and are acting as ambassadors to deal with serious issues like Maternal Mortality and Malarial deaths. The fellowship is a global movement aimed to mobilize interfaith action to end extreme poverty by connecting outstanding young interfaith leaders with leading NGOs working towards the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
