Gone is the era of identity crises and the days of acute sufferings. The woman at Deepalaya now stands tall, enlightened, determined, rubbing shoulder to shoulder with men and with an individualistic approach towards life.
Gone is the era of identity crises and the days of acute sufferings. The woman at Deepalaya now stands tall, enlightened, determined, rubbing shoulder to shoulder with men and with an individualistic approach towards life. Deepalaya boasts of its Self Help Group (SHG) Program in which loans are given to poor individuals specially women, assisting them in setting up income generation activities, which in turn uplifts their social and economic< situation.< The SHGs led by women are running successfully, empowering the women across various parts of the country. On International Women’s day Deepalaya celebrated the success of women folk in different ways .With Shama’s story an inspiration, women of SHGs at Deepalaya project in Uttarakhand, Almora celebrated the day with great energy and enthusiasm. Different games and interesting activities were organized like musical chair race, Bindi game, Naher Tila game and the members sang and danced in merry.
The Chief Guest Smt Durga Devi Kara (Block Pramukh, Takula, Almora) spoke highly of Deepalaya making women self dependent and confident and praised the celebration as it will a boost their morale and motivate them to further excel and keep up the hard work .
Women day-2At Stri Shakti Suvidha(SSS) Kendra, the aggrieved received much comfort and in many cases solution to the domestic violence they were facing. On the International Women’s Day, the community centre was jam packed by the women folk who were enlightened by Ms. Chitra Panchkaran, Family Counsellor who spoke about women empowerment and their legal rights and provisions and gave a deep insight into the history of the day as well. Followed by an interactive quiz session on health which was quite informative as Ms Chitra answered the queries of the eager women. The winners of the quiz were distributed prizes in order to encourage them. The staff and the students presented poems on women empowerment celebrating the spirit of womanhood.
Women day-3 Stri Shakti Suvidha Kendra promotes health seeking habits in the womenfolk and Health Camps are organized regularly both to promote and provide the much needed intervention. On 13 March 2011, a Health Camp was organized in the slum cluster of Shyam Vihar. A Gynaecologist, a General Physician and a Paediatrician conducted the screening of 400 people in the area, the Women day-4medicines were provided free of cost and some patients with major problems were referred to the nearby government hospital. A team of six doctors from Indian Dental Association (IDA) conducted a screening camp and distributed free samples of the Colgate sensitive. Deepalaya SSS- extends its hearty gratitude to Dr. Praveen Varma for leading the team.
