Christmas is round the corner. The snow covered mountains, the reindeer, the angels, X-mass tree, the carols, the hymns, lovely music and of course the generous Santa with his bag full of gifts, is all that we wait for. At Deepalaya, it has been a tradition to welcome Christmas with its children singing the first carols.

It was a fine Thursday morning. Winter was in its full bloom. Sun, which had been showering its blessings for the last few days, did not show up, perfectly in line with the Christmas flavour. The huge Christmas tree in the verandah welcomed the guests. Dressed in white with red and green scarves, the children looked beautiful, waiting to unleash the magic that they held in their voice.
The long awaited moment came when the chief guest Rev. Eapen Abraham Vicar of St. Thomas Marthoma Church Karol Bagh and Mr. TK Mathew, CE Deepalaya arrived. It was a welcome moment followed by a welcome song. A warm welcome was given to all guests, staff from different locations and parents of performing children. The program kicked off on a melodious note followed by a prayer dance from a student-teacher duo.

Thereafter, Mr. T K Mathew conveyed his message with a sense of déjà vu, a revisit to the past, how the Choir was conceptualised with 250 children from different locations and its inauguration by the then Delhi Chief Minister, Ms. Sheila Dixit and its past performance on major events.
The choir was at its best. Sunny – the choir master – had excellent coordination with the children, who followed his instructions without fail. The group sung two more songs followed by a play based on a story set in 1840s, which was enjoyed by all.

It was time for the tiny tots to come upstage. The girls dressed up like angels and the boys as X-mass trees. It was a rolly polly performance with all shaking their hands and twisting their bodies.
Thereafter, the audience was thrilled to see a big Santa Claus accompanied by little children wearing clothes of Santa Claus, who followed and replicated his steps. From the hurly burly of life, everyone was transported to a world of fiction, love, music and peace. The fun was evident from the smiles everyone had on their face.
Thereafter Rev. Eapen Abraham, the chief guest, Children presenting a play on Christmasgave a profound message. “Life should not be seen as it is visible”, he said. “It should be looked at from God’s point of view”. He gave the perfect example of a bee and a girl. The girl views the bee as a threat while her mother tells her that the honey she is so fond of is produced by the same bee, which she dislikes. Life is all about perceptions. He also talked about Mother Teresa and showered his blessings on children and people.
Thereafter, the head boy and the head girl gave vote of thanks. The program ended with the last carol.
