The coronavirus death toll has risen past 2000 in mainland China as per National Health Commission’s report and more than 75,000 people have been affected worldwide. In India, Kerala initially reported three cases of infection, and two had tested negative.

In view of this, a special session was conducted at Government High school, Phase-5, Mohali for making students aware of this virus under Project Parivartan. Session conducted by English Educator, Ms Manpreet for the students of class 6 & 7.

There’s no need to panic

The safety, health and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. Deepalaya Project Parivartan is raising awareness against the coronavirus as a precaution, though are stressing that parents should not panic as schools are “completely safe”. A detailed session was conducted in which students were told them that school is taking the necessary steps and they are completely safe. There’s no harm in sending kids to school.

During the session we have been discussing washing hands regularly, keeping mouth covered when coughing or sneezing and hands covered when you are dealing with edible items.

Thereafter Symptoms of the virus were discussed

Coronavirus can cause a range of symptoms. Symptoms can range from mild illness to pneumonia. Affected people may experience:

  • fever
  • flu-like symptoms such as coughing, sore throat and headaches
  • difficulty breathing

Maintaining good health hygiene at school

As this is also flu season, we continue to remind students to follow proper handwashing techniques. Signs are also around schools as reminders for students, staff and visitors as well. They were informed that every student can protect against infections by practising good hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene. Here are some tips that students can follow at schools:

  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue, or cough into your elbow.
  • Dispose of the tissue into a bin and then wash your hands afterwards.
  • Wash your hands regularly, after using the toilet, and before eating.

Students showed a great interest in attending this session as they found it very useful, they got to know how to take of themselves and their family from this dangerous virus.

We are very thankful to the whole staff of project Parivartan for conducting this session.
