Deepalaya is an NGO that has been working to provide education to underprivileged women, youth and children since 1979. For the past decade it has focused extensively on Gusbethi, a tiny fringe district of Haryana. Till now, the organisation has been operating a children’s home, a mini-hospital and a The representative from Cargill, and Mr. G.N. Qazi, Vice-Chancellor Jamia Hamdard University, inaugurate the school.formal school for the primary classes, but on 11th April 2014, a new formal school up till class X, equipped with vocational training facilities, was added to its ever-growing portfolio.
The new premise was constructed with the sponsorship of Cargill and with the help of ASED. The inauguration day saw an impressive turnout of employees, beneficiaries and sponsors alike. The day began with Mr. Mathew, the Chief Executive of Deepalaya, and the chieRepresentatives from Cargill and ASED at the inauguration of a formal Deepalaya School in Haryana.f guests lighting the lamp. This was followed by Mr. Mathew speaking about his vision for the project; he also took the opportunity to formally thank the sponsors for believing in the NGO and the attendees for coming to the event.
The delegation then made its way to the newly constructed school building. Mr. Marco, the representative from Cargill did the honours by cutting the ribbon and unveiling the inscription plaque. The group then stepped inside the building and took great joy in seeing the fruits of their labour. Sparkling desks and state-of-the-art computer systems were placed in classrooms to facilitate a stimulated learning experience, truly a step up from studying in the local schools.Fully operational computer lab to give vocational training to underprivileged children.
Once every nook and cranny of the building was surveyed, the attendees reassembled at the grounds and the representatives from Cargill and ASED took the opportunity to share their experience. Mr. G.N.Qazi, the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard University, expressed his appreciation for Deepalaya’s commitment to the cause of education and pledged his organisation’s support in every possible way.
The speeches were followed by a cultural programme organised by the children, Girl students at Gusbethi, Haryana perform ghazals for the audience.Deepalaya students performed soul touching gazals and danced to popular songs, much to the enthusiasm of the audience. Not ones to be left behind, the parents of these children too stepped up and shared their experience. These proud parents spoke about the importance of education and how Deepalaya helped them and their children become self reliant. One parent in particular remarked about how he’d now be able to send his girl to school, who he’d previously withdrew from a govt. school, as the Deepalaya school was much closer and therefore, more convenient.
