Deepalaya has been regularly taking part in the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon which brings with it a great spirit of love, fun and oneness. The Marathon is respected for its status, association and connects with people from all social levels. This year six of our Alumni students have decided to participate as Dream Runners and hold the torch of flame forward in order to inspire many more to dream in spite of their low economical background. The countdown has begun with only few days left for the Marathon on the 21stNovember, 2010. Without further ado read on what they have to say…
“My family was never keen that I continue beyond Middle School. A career for me…was never planned out. But I had always nurtured my Dreams of becoming a nurse and caring for the sick. My teachers at Deepalaya convinced my parents to let me pursue my dreams. Today, as I put on my white coat and motivate my young friends to take care of their health- I feel Amazing,” was what Shama Parveen, an Alumni cum nurse of Deepalaya School, Kalkaji Extension had to say when asked about Deepalaya. She is one of the six alumni students who have pledged to come forward and raise funds for the thousands of underprivileged children of the country.
Similar is the story of Vijay Lakshmi, whose father works as a local vendor and she has four more siblings to look after. The decision for her parents to send her to school was a tough one as the concept of an educated daughter was unheard of in her extended family!! But Deepalaya’s constant motivation transformed them…..and today they do not regret the decision they made a few years back. Today, Vijay Lakshmi is a teacher at Deepalaya itself. She says that “as a Dream Runner, I want to inspire many more parents to come forward and educate their GIRLS….after all an educated girl makes an educated and aware family. I look forward to your support to help me become a Dream Runner.”
Poonam, another Alumni student is proud of the fact that the money that she would be able to raise being a Dream Runner, would further help HER Deepalaya educate many more underprivileged children. She appeals everybody to support her in this. The other three Alumni Students taking part are Anand Prakash, Pradeep Kumar and Komal Rathod. Come and Join hands with us to help children from the less privileged families to see the brighter side of life after getting educated! We are confident that with your support and encouragement we can achieve this. Please share this thought with other like-minded people as well.
Although all of them have been registered to take part in the Marathon, they need to raise `90,000/- each in order to run as Dream Runners on the D-day.
Support them to run for a cause. Click here http://www.deepalaya.org/ and donate before 19th November, 2010.
