A gold medal is a wonderful thing. But if you’re not enough without it, you’ll never be enough with it. Deepalaya with its work for more than three decades has undeniably proved to be an epitome of excellence providing an overall development for the underprivileged. The true example of the efforts of the Team Deepalaya can be figured out through the confidence sparkling from the students of Deepalaya School, Kalkaji Extension who recently took part in the Schools Sports day on 11th February, 2010. Instilled with a spirit of sportsmanship and full enthusiasm, it was indeed a special day for the proud staff and students of the school, as this was the first Sports Day celebrated after the School received provisional recognition from the Government of India.
The occasion was graced by Ms. Sudha Parthasarathy (Executive Director, Deepalaya) and Mr. Chackochen (Manager, Deepalaya) and Mrs. Chackochen, who took part in the inaugural race, along with the Principal, Ms Anita Sawhney, to boost the confidence of the students.A maalik tere bande hum… echoed in the sports field as the children started the day with with the prayer song seeking strength from the almighty. It was followed by a vibrant Rajasthani dance which was presented by a group of girls from the School, drawing huge applause from the guests. The sheer sight to remember was the well coordinated March past by the students of all four houses, matching their steps to the beats of the drums. Colored flags and white margins gave the playground added to the feel of the day which was also reflected on the enthusiastic faces of all the students. The first half of the day was for primary section. The tiny tots of the school enjoyed fun races like Eat the Biscuit race, Pluck the Tail race, Rabbit race, Lemon and Spoon race, three legged race, etc. Looking cute with tiny tails on the backs, their confidence level betrayed their timid appearance. On the other hand, the senior students took part in various flat races like 50 M, 200 M, 400 M, 800 M Races, Relay races, Hurdle race, Long jump, etc., amidst strong uproars from the audience, cheering for their respective houses. Even the microphone drowned in the loud cheers of the students. Not just the students even the staff had a gala time taking part in the Tug-of war and 50 M races. The day ended with the prize distribution to the winners. The tiny-tots could not hold their smile and proudly posed in front of the cameras holding their certificates. But, more than anything, it was the Sportsman Spirit that indeed made the students stand out. After all, the essential thing in life is not conquering but fighting well.Send feedback/suggestions to ravipahuja@deepalaya.org.
