A Self Help Group Bank (SHG) linkage workshop, supported by NABARD was held on November 7th, 2015 atNabard is giving training to Deepalaya Self Help Groups the Deepalaya, Pataudi office operational since 1999. Due to widespread rural bank networks, the SHG-Bank Linkage Programme is very suitable to our women empowerment projects. NGO’s such as Deepalaya play a pivotal role in bringing financial comfort especially to the women members, who face rampant gender discrimination.
Not only are the women in the region uneducated and unemployed, they are disempowered due toSHG bank link-up workshop held at Deepalaya Tauru office their illiteracy and their financial freedom curbed to such an extent, they do not even understand basic bank formalities. This is where Deepalaya steps into make a difference, by educating and empowering them.
About 135 members of 20 SHGs participated in the program. They workshop aimed at expanding financial literacy by sharing the importance of various banking services and rural development schemes of the womenSpeaker from Nabard telling about the importance of bank linkages and other institutional linkages. members.

There was an interactive session during which the women were motivated to ask questions and come out with the benefits they have accrued so far by being members of a SHG. This session bought out their confidence and with pride they said “we do not use the purdah” any more.
It was a four hour long workshop during which some women representatives also helped the bank understand a rural women’s needs better.
