Girls have fun with science at the National Science Museum

An educational tour is a part of the academic experience in most schools. Such tours help students understand first hand various subjects. It was in this spirit that the girls under the Loesche project, Noida were taken on a tour of the National Science Museum and India Gate.
Loesche India Project, started only this year, is a unique one, where only girls are enrolled at the Deepalaya learning center, Noida. Society here discriminates against the girl child, parents are not keen to educate daughters. In fact some parents were reluctant to send their girls on the trip. Only after counselling and assurances by Mr. M. J. Alam they were allowed.

On November 5th, the tour kick started from Sector-10, Noida. The children were first taken to the National Science Museum, Pragati Maidan. Despite a great rush at the museum, the children patiently awaited their turn. They witnessed the importance of science and technology and got acquainted with old and modern technology. They were engrossed in trying to understand the charts depicting medicine and its effects on the human body. The models of various planets in the space room, captured their imagination. The model Dinosaurs were a visual treat, it was fun to watch, as the girls pretended to get scared.
Most of all, the “Wild Animals” and the “Tribal” section, seemed to excite them. It is one thing to see the picture of an animal or a plant in a book and quite another to see a life size model in a museum. History came alive before their eyes, when they saw the coins of various civilizations.

After the museum visit, the children were given refreshments and then taken to visit the India Gate. Being physically present at the India Gate excited the little ones, the fountains delighted them. So infectious was their enthusiasm that even foreign tourists took some of their pictures
This was an opportunity for students to have a jolly time together, playing antakshiri on the bus, while indulgent teachers looked on. The trip also succeeded in Deepalaya, winning the trust of parents. A step forward in the right direction for the project. It was an unforgettable experience and the girls say they want more such outings.
