Strongly believing in the above thought, Deepalaya has been working diligently towards educating the underprivileged for over three decades. The organization has been encouraging all its students to stand at par with their privileged peers. Not just this, the organization has an Alumni Association, which continues to touch the lives of the students beyond school. It was truly a proud moment when six of our Alumni went to the US for further studies earlier this year. Yet another moment to celebrate was when six of our Alumni In the pic- from left- Shama Parveen, Anand Prakash, Pradeep, Komal, Poonam and Vijya Lakshmi)were enthused to register themselves as Dream Makers in the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon on the 21st November, 2010.

Why these six?

Because they were encouraged and motivated intrinsically to help Deepalaya reach out to many more needy and deserving students to step forward and give back to their Deepalaya. At a recent Press Meet, the enthusiastic lot felt really special to be running for a cause that they had benefitted for many years. Komal, felt like a celebrity and said, “I am really proud of my decision of supporting children coming from an underprivileged background. I have been asking my friends, acquaintances and teachers to support me during the Marathon and raise the necessary 1 lakh.”

Vijay Lakshmi, an alumni cum teacher at Ramditi J.RNarang Deepalaya School was on cloud nine when the Times of India shared her story with the nation on 19th November, 2010. She feels at bliss to be a part of Deepalaya family and encourages her students as well to give back to the society. As a Dream Maker she says, “I am participating in the marathon to raise money for the disadvantaged children, who don’t have the resources to live a better life.” Similar were the views of her former classmates of Deepalaya, i.e Poonam, Shama, Anand Prakash and Pradeep. You can read about their individual stories at http://deepalaya.org/.

Come forward and support these students for their future endeavors by donating online at http://www.deepalaya.org. After all, it’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.
