International Disability Day is an international observance promoted by the UN since 1992. The purpose of the day observance is to foster understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of disabled people.

Deepalaya strongly believes that differently abled children can learn to lead a normal life if they have effective access to services like early identification, intervention, education, vocational training, employment opportunities and the availability of aids and appliances.

The vital purpose of this day celebration is to improve the understandings of the students towards the people with disability issues as well as get together to support them to improve their self-esteem, well-being and rights in the society.

To increase the physical development of the students we celebrated International Day of Disabled Persons at our centers, Sambhav Project and Deepalaya Learning Centre, Titron, Saharanpur, with an aimed at rehabilitating and mainstreaming them into the larger society.

‘Sambhav Project – Mainstreaming the Differently abled’, Deepalaya has been working on this issue for the last 20 years and to celebrate this day Members of Inner Wheel Club of Delhi Panchsheel Park visited our centre to inaugurate the ‘Standing Frame’ donated by them only. Other activities also done as to bring out their hidden talent and creative skills, activities related to sports, games, dance, music and craft work have been done.

Our main goal is to make children with special needs self-reliant. So Sambhav Project takes care of children with various disabilities like Intellectual Disability, Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, Autism, Hearing and Speech Impaired, Muscular Dystrophy and other physical impairments.

The day was followed by motivational speech by the team of Wheel Club at our Sambhav Project, Gole Kuan. Towards the end, a small photo and storytelling session was conducted in the center, to spread awareness on issue like ‘Disability’.
