The habit of reading is one of the best qualities that a student can possess, it helps a great deal in building your confidence, reduce the stress and puts you in a better mood. With the same aim, a great session called ‘Kitabshala’ conducted on January 16, 2020, at VTC Sanjay Colony.

Kitabshala is an initiative to connect youth with books. It was organized to encourage youth to develop the habit of reading books. A session started at 11 am in the morning with the multiple objectives to give benefit to the students of Vocation raining Centre, Sanjay colony.

The session started with the first activity, ‘Develop Reading Habit’, where they were told that reading is one of the most fundamental skills a student’s needs to learn to get success in life. It is vital to our future not just academically, but in daily life as well. During the activity, one of our students asked to share his views on and added that reading allows for exposure to words and phrases that we might not use as part of normal speech.

Youth awareness and exposure:

In this activity they were told that reading habits make us a better communicator in context of improving our vocabulary, reading enhances our language skills and develops fluency, allowing us to express our thoughts and ideas better.

Ice-breaking session:

Breaking the monotonous way of introducing each other, interesting activity started in which students were made to mingle each other and show care, affection and love without uttering any words, they were free to use creative energies and emotional capability to introduce themselves in their own way.

A session was taken by Mr Pradeep (Instructor at Sanjay Colony), he explained the purpose and importance of having a habit of reading book. He selected a book ‘You Can Win’ to start a session, as it talks about ‘practical and common sense approach’ that will take students to ancient wisdom to contemporary thinking and clarify the values.

Thereafter a group activity was organized, where they were divided into teams and given 15 minutes to prepare themselves for explaining their topics and its relevance to today’s session in front of everyone. They narrated their stories by explaining the positive attitudes like through books we learn about how things work, understand different cultures, learn new languages and also right books are full of useful information that helps us become smarter, sharper, more skilled and open to new ideas.

After these activities students had sufficient understanding of having this habit and they promised to apply all the steps in their daily life. The students also interacted with the instructor, as some students came up with the problems they face while reading books and understand the concepts.
