Mahatma Gandhi had rightly said that, “It is the health that is the real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.” But, our country is still in a sorry state when it comes to health! This was even complained during the recent Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Such situations calls for timely care and diagnosis and thinking on the similar note, the Stri Shakti Suvidha Kendra of Deepalaya organized a health camp for the women in Tilak Nagar on 21st October, 2010 from 2pm to 5pm.
Health CampThe camp had a group of 2 doctors and 1 nurse from Guru Tej Bahadur Hospital who had come to detect cases of cervical cancer among the women; 1 gynecologist from the government hospital and 1 orthopedist and 2 pharmacists. The doctors were surrounded by around 350 patients and had come for both the awareness and medication of the various diseases. “I am looking forward to meet and cure the women in the underprivileged section of the society who usually avoid visiting a clinic or hospital despite their continuous illness,” shared Dr. B.K. Bhagat, MBBS, D-ORTH, FAIMS. HCA, Delhi University, who was part of the camp.
Health CampBesides this, the camp also had a team from MCD to make aware the people on dengue and malaria. They distributed posters and pamphlets to people in the camp and even demonstrated the use of the machines that are used for killing the mosquitoes. “The Fagging spray is used for killing dengue and malaria mosquitoes and it is very vital that the general population know about this,” shared Mr. Rajpal Singh from MCD.
Health CampNot just this, the camp saw a large group of women attending the camp and discussing about the problems they are facing health wise. “The gynecologist, Dr. Seema Bhagat helped me understand my health problem and I look forward to such camps in the future too,” shared Ms. Anita, a woman who visited the health camp.
The response received by the entire community was very positive and we would continue to organize such camps for the welfare of the community.
