Ever since, we started Deepalaya SQEP project, we have endeavored to engage with the community at different levels. One of these engagement activities includes the monthly nutrition camp with the mothers. The idea is to help them in understanding the need for a healthy and nutritious diet, using ingredients that are readily available at home. The mothers over these last few months have attended 5 such sessions and have found them really beneficial.
Last month, the nutrition camp was organized on 30th October with 29 mothers. The footfall was less as most of the people had gone to their villages for Chhath Puja. The event started with a brief introduction about what they will learn from the session. They were told how they can make their day-to-day food interesting and motivate their children to eat home-cooked food. The importance of different nutrients and specially calcium was discussed along with the rich sources and deficiency diseases.
Thereafter, they were asked to help Ms. Sadhna Jha for making Paushtik Besan Laddoos and Badam Milk. Later on, both the dishes were distributed amongst the ladies. Most of them agreed that these recipes are neither costly nor difficult to make. The dishes are also helpful for lactating mothers and fulfil their special nutritional needs like protein and calcium were. After the sessions all of them were given packets of roasted chana and copy of recipe.
