At a time when rape cases are on a rise in Delhi NCR region, Project STEADY initiated by Kasna plant of Asian Paints Limited under their CSR activities and implemented by Deepalaya, a Delhi-based NGO seeks to empower girls to put up a fight during untoward circumstances.
It is the third year of Project STEADY. Deepalaya and Asian Paints have reached out to 392 girls studying in schools located in Dankour block of Greater Noida during financial year 2016-17. The girls in return trained 3083 in their schools. The idea was to make the project sustainable with making the girls as trainers. The students were given 10 sessions of self-defense training.
Apart from self-defense training, 1939 students were given career counseling sessions so that they are aware about the innumerable opportunities they have as soon as they pass out from Class 10 and what subjects should they choose based on their area of interest.
More than 200 boys were given yoga training sessions to bring a behavourial change for education in general and girls in particular. We are amazed by the kind of results that we have seen. The boys who were known for mischief in school have now become disciplined and interact with the girls respectfully.
After a year of toiling on the field, a small ceremony was organized at Savitri Bai Phule Inter College, Kasna in the presence of representatives of Asian Paints Limited, Deepalaya and 10schools in Dankour block. The idea was to celebrate the success of the project.
Ms. Babita Nagar, International wrestler was the Chief Guest. The function started with lighting of the lamp followed by welcome song and Saraswati Vandana. Ms. Jaswant Kaur, Director CRM welcomed the guests and threw some light on different aspects of the project. The girls from Savitri Bai Phule Inter College presented a skit showcasing the skills that they have learnt from self-defense sessions. Thereafter, Ms. Babita was called upon stage to speak a few words to motivate the girls. She said that there is nothing that a girl cannot do. Girls are far better than boys.
Thereafter, the students who won in the inter-school self- defense competition on 28th February, 2017 were awarded with certificates and trophies were given to the schools, which bagged top three positions. Post this, Mr. Anjum Parwez, Sr. Manager, Q& A appreciated the efforts made by Deepalaya for implementing Project STEADY.
