There should be safety of the girl child and every girl in India should get proper educationâ€Â was what Mr.Rohit Bal, Goodwill Ambassador for the cause of girl child education had to say at the launch of the Power of Kiss initiative on 28th January, 2010

Oriflame, the natural Swedish Cosmetics major in association with Deepalaya- a non-government development organization, launched the ‘Power of Kiss’, a major initiative for the overall development and welfare of the girl child in India. Oriflame’s Managing Director- Mr. Fredrik Widell unveiled the ‘Power of Kiss’ campaign along with the fashion maestro Mr. Rohit Bal- goodwill ambassador for the cause and Mr. T. K. Mathew, Chief Executive and Secretary of Deepalaya accompanied by some students from the Schools of Deepalaya.

The campaign aims to raise funds for the upliftment of the girl child in India. To help support the cause, Oriflame- India will donate Rs. 2 from the sale of each lipstick and this contribution will be doubled by the ‘af Jochnick Foundation’, a charity concern formed by the founders of Oriflame- Jonas af Jochnick and Robert af Jochnick contributing a total of Rs. 6/- per sale to Deepalaya.

According to Mr. Widell, MD, Oriflame-India, “We at Oriflame believe that any investment made in the education of a girl, translates directly and quickly into better health care, poverty reduction and better overall economic performance of the family. Thus, through the ‘Power of Kiss’ campaign, we are hoping that our consultants and consumer base whole-heartedly contribute for this great cause.â€Â

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Mathew, Chief Executive and Secretary, Deepalaya said,â€Â “With the birth of a girl child, a new world emerges as she would be the creator of more lives in the future. From the past four years Oriflamme India and af Jochnick Foundation has been supporting Deepalaya towards their commitment in positive discrimination of the girl child. The ‘Power of Kiss’ campaign is yet another initiative towards the cause. Deepalaya feels proud, stronger and motivated towards the issue of education and several related issues like gender equity and women empowerment.â€Â

Mr. Rohit Bal, renowned fashion designer added, “We should all step up and make a difference. I believe in the brand and the noble cause they support here in India. I whole heartedly support this initiative and urge everyone to contribute.â€Â

It was a moment of enthusiasm for the students of Deepalaya present at the launch who shared their story about how Deepalaya with the help of Oriflame brought about a change in their life.

It would be a month long campaign and yet another feather in the cap of Deepalaya to lead the underprivileged girls towards the path of education and bring out their latent talents.
