Eighty five students of vocational training course at Deepalaya’s Gender Resource Centre, Tilak Nagar, received their certificates at a ceremony held on 20 July, 2011. The ceremony saw various cultural performances by the students like singing and dancing to celebrate their happiness. The students have trained in Cutting and Tailoring and Beauty Culture and the examinations have been conducted by the Jan Shikshan Sansthan, (ministry of HRD, Govt. of India).

Addressing the students, Rtn. T.K. Mathew, Secretary and Chief Executive, Deepalaya, pointed out that the “course does not only helps you to be independent and earn but also provides you a platform to explore your abilities”.

“The course has helped me to earn a living and contribute in my family expenses. Now I don’t give clothes for stitching to a tailor rather I stitch them myself”, said Mamta, a student.

The Gender Resource Center, a brainchild of the Delhi Government, is intended to be a central focal point for all issues relating to the empowerment of women including health, literacy and income generation. The centre was set up with an aim to act as a catalyst for empowering the women and to take care of all dimensions relating to the empowerment as a whole.

The students also motivated their juniors to make full use of the opportunity and to devote their full attention to what is being taught in the class.
