Deepalaya is associated with Butterflies for more than a decade. Earlier children from our schools (now learning centers) were given an opportunity to participate in different workshops that the organization conducts on monthly basis for overall development of children. Ever since, our schools were converted into learning centers, children from Deepalaya Childrens’ home started participating in these workshops.
Butterflies conducted a workshop “Bachon ki nazron se”, on 31st October at their office with a motive to allow the children to express how they feel about this world. Many a times, children are not able to express their feelings and even if they do, the parents or the adults are not able to understand, leading to generation gap. The worskshop was organized by the NGO in collaboration with All India Radio. The ideas and the thoughts of the children will be aired.
The idea was to make this world a better place for underprivileged children by making it safe, happy, and a little bit friendlier for them. Children below 16 years of age from different NGOs participated in the workshop. While they expressed their views, they also learnt the art of story-telling in an effective manner. They were also told the basics of writing a story in four different stages. During the first stage, the participating children were taught how to pick a good topic for storytelling. The children were mentored by the renowned radio-jockeys of All India Radio for writing their story properly in the second phase. They were taught how to speak on the radio in the third stage. The last stage was the most exciting as the participants were taken to the recording room to learn and record their voice.
Two of our children, namely Rakesh and Shehzadi participated and represented Deepalaya with full enthusiasm. The whole workshop lasted for 7 hours starting from 10 in the morning till 5 in the evening. The children were a little nervous initially but enjoyed the workshop till the end. They too recorded their voices which will be broadcast on AIR FM Rainbow Delhi, at around 4:45 p.m. every Thursday.
